Fishing Tip - Low Cost Anchoring

When we Shad fish by a picket fence or pilings in the river, it can get dicy motoring the boat around parcially submerged logs and posts. Over the years we've lost several anchors and almost lost many more, so we've started using a simple improvised anchor. This is just a plastic bottle filled with sand and/or gravel, with some old rope and an empty plastic bottle for a float. You'll need about 40-50' of rope. With this we can easily throw the heavy jug over the barrier, or tie it around an exposed piling, and then tie the boat up to the rope. It usually isn't too difficult to get it off when we are done, either. Be careful out there! If you see a jug with NWPODCAST or 895 written on it, feel free to tie up and use it, too. At least until we get there!
