A Weekend of Packing Wood

Last week a group came through and cut down the pine forest in our front yard. We've been whittling away at the trees for several years... but they have so many branches it took FOREVER to get the ground cleared, stump removed, and branch pile burned.

This year we hired an outfit who cut all the trees; chipped and hauled off the branches; and ground the stumps for a very reasonable price. It saved us at least 3 months of weekend work.

Look at the size of the branches these guys chipped!

Getting rid of the branches alone was worth the price.

Besides, weekends are for fishing!

Another bonus was all the firewood. These pines are heavy when green, but will burn hot after they are split and aged for 2 years.

We got about 3 cords - enough to last us at least 2 years.

And a good week of workout loading all the wood into the truck.

The front yard looks great - nice, flat, clear, and open.

Just in time for all the nice spring-like weather we've been having.

Its been alot of work raking and piling all the needles, and filling in the stump holes.

We've got all the wood hauled out back where we can split and stack it out-of-the-way.

Everyone is a bit sore and tired, but that is a good feeling. Even got alittle color from all the sunshine.

Great work, everybody!
