Back in June of last year we started out trying to make our own charcoal. Really simple experiment - cedar strips wrapped in heavy tinfoil, placed inside the BBQ.
We've left them in there ever since, to cook as we BBQ'ed food, etc.
This weekend after cooking burgers, we checked on the progress.The outsides are well char'ed, and starting to see some progress on the inside.
Still a ways to go yet... definitely not the quick way to get charcoal.
